Michael Martinucci, M.D. v. Kaiser Permanente - Wrongful Termination
Plaintiff was forced to resign after blowing the whistle on the hospital’s outdated radiology standards. The hospital retaliated by making discrimination and sexual harassment accusations against the plaintiff. Plaintiff was awarded $3,900,000 for wrongful termination and $7,500,000 for punitive damages, a total of $11,400,000 verdict.
Irvin Strub, M.D. v. Kaiser Permanente - Professional Negligence (Fraud, Breach of Fiduciary Duty)
Plaintiff had his medical license revoked and was fired from the job by the hospital due to the hospital’s professional negligence and breach of fiduciary duty. The 87-year-old doctor was awarded a total of $3,949,580.
Esther Cortes v. Montebello Unified School District - Disability Discrimination
Plaintiff was disabled while on the job and the school district failed to provide her with a new job that accommodates her disability. Instead, the school district hired younger, less qualified and thus lower-paid staff. Plaintiff was awarded $1,410,709.
Ararat Badalian v. Mervyn Hillard Wolf - Professional Negligence (Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Breach of Contract)
Plaintiff filed a lawsuit for the defendant’s failure to file a worker’s compensation action on plaintiff’s behalf. The plaintiff was awarded a total of $1,754,302 including punitive damages. This case was appealed by the defendant and denied.
Mass Media Solutions Inc. v. KXLA TV 44, Inc., Korean Television Enterprises, Inc. - Business Dispute (Breach of Contract, Fraud, Intentional Interference with Contractual Relations)
The Jury awarded plaintiff Mass Media Solutions, Inc., (d/b/a "UCTV") $5,215,000 in its case against Los Angeles TV station KXLA TV 44 and a Korean language television programmer "KTE", for wrongfully terminating and interfering with Mass Media’s broadcasting contract with KXLA. The case settled after the initial verdict when the jury was about to consider punitive damages.
Alice Hai Chu Lee et al. v. China Airlines, Ltd., et al. - Wrongful Termination (Retaliation in violation of FEHA and Public Policy, Age Discrimination)
Plaintiffs were long time employees in the accounting department of China Airlines. When they protested about unfair working conditions and filed claims with state agencies and a lawsuit, they were suspended indefinitely without pay. After a week long trial, the Jury awarded them $297,000 in damages.
Gallegos v. Los Angeles Community College - Wrongful Termination
Plaintiff was terminated in retaliation for filing a workers' compensation claim. The plaintiff was awarded a verdict of $210,082.00.
Jack W. Landis, Jr. v. Pinkerton, Inc. - Wrongful Termination
Plaintiff was employed by Pinkerton, Inc., for 25 years prior to his termination. The evidence overwhelmingly indicated the existence of an implied in fact contract not to terminate except for good cause; no good cause existed. The manner of plaintiff’s discharge was sly and sounded in conspiracy. Plaintiff was awarded in arbitration damages in the amount of $1,204,838.00.
Wang v. Sony Electronics, Inc. - Retaliation in Violation of California Family Rights Act
Plaintiff was employed with Sony Electronics for more than 14 years as a Master Technician I. Plaintiff was fired from Sony Electronics as a result of taking off for medical leave. The jury awarded plaintiff $1,450,000.00.
Woodward v. Kaiser Hospitals - Age Discrimination
Plaintiff was fired by Kaiser Hospitals after 31 years of dedicated service. She was one of the older managers at the hospital where she worked. She won a substantial verdict against Kaiser.
Eubanks v. 26 E. Colorado, Inc. - Real Estate
Plaintiff won a $600,000.00 verdict for wrongful eviction from an Old Town Pasadena storefront. The case settled after the initial verdict when the jury was about to consider punitive damages.
Mueth v. The Brass Monkey, Inc. Et al. - Sexual Harassment
The Plaintiff was a waitress earning minimum wages while she was subjected to outrageous sexual harassment and abuse by the manager/owner of the restaurant where she worked. She won one of the largest sexual harassment verdicts in California.
Moulton v. Sony Pictures Corporation - Wrongful Termination
Plaintiff sued Sony after being fired from his job as a senior company manager. He won after a jury trial. Sony contended he was removed as part of a reduction in force.
Kong v. Sinochem and Goodring Intl. - Business Litigation
The Kong family was sued by Sinochem - one of the largest corporations in Mainland China and one of its U.S. Subsidiaries, Goodring International, Inc. After a full jury trial, the Kongs won, defeating Sinochem’s claims against them.
Baugher v. The MGM Grand Hotel/Destron, Inc. - Wrongful Termination
Plaintiff won a large verdict against the defendant after being lured to leave Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas to join the MGM Grand sales force. The plaintiff was fired after the defendants got her book of business.
Sauer v. Ultramar, Inc. - Age Discrimination
Plaintiff won a million dollar verdict against Ultramar, inc. after being "laid off" due to an alleged reduction in force. Plaintiff proved the RIF was pretextual. The case later settled.
Luo/Fu v. Liang Tai Knitwear Ltd., Inc & Hong Yuan Industrial Co. Inc. - Wrongful Termination
Plaintiffs won substantial verdicts for wrongful termination in breach of public policy after they were fired for reporting their employers to the U.S. immigration and Naturalization Service for employing illegal aliens.
Belanger v. Restaurant Enterprises Group Inc. - Age Discrimination
Plaintiff won a large jury verdict after she was fired because she was too old to look good in the restaurant’s revealing costumes.
Daniel B. Huffman v. Interstate Brands Companies-Wrongful Demotion on the Bases of Age
A jury found that plaintiff was demoted on the basis of his age and awarded plaintiff $2,699,999.00.
Faris v. Defendant M.D. - Plaintiff underwent an abdominoplasty ("tummy tuck"). The surgery was negligently performed resulting in further corrective surgery. M&R secured in excess of a six figure recovery for Ms. Faris.
Roosevelt Taylor v. Defendant M.D. - Mrs. Taylor sought treatment for nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and low blood pressure. The defendant sent her home, and failed to stabilize her condition. The following day she died. M&R secured another recovery in excess of six figures for Mr. Taylor.
